  • 1 block firm tofu (14 oz)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 12 tbsp Sriracha or chili paste (to taste)
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu between two plates or in a tofu press to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes and coat them evenly with cornstarch.
  3. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.
  4. Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the skillet, frying for about five minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together brown sugar, soy sauce, Sriracha, and minced garlic to create the sweet spicy sauce.
  6. Once the tofu is crispy, pour the sauce over it in the skillet and toss gently to coat for about two minutes.
  7. Serve hot garnished with toasted sesame seeds.
