Description

This Christmas morning strata is a delightful combination of soft brioche, creamy eggs, savory sausage, and rich Gruyère cheese. Ingredients

  • 8 cups brioche bread, cubed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (or heavy cream)
  • 1 pound sausage (spicy or sweet)
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh thyme or chives, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Fold in half of the Gruyère cheese and herbs.
  4. Layer half of the brioche cubes in the baking dish. Spoon half of the sausage mixture over them followed by half of the egg mixture. Repeat layers.
  5. Top with remaining cheese and bake for 45-50 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
