Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped hazelnuts (toasted if desired)
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and chopped hazelnuts. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and place them on the prepared baking sheets about two inches apart. Press your thumb into each ball to create an indentation.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until slightly set but still soft in the center. Cool on the baking sheet for five minutes before transferring to wire racks.
- Once cooled completely, fill each thumbprint with chocolate hazelnut spread.
