- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- 1 cup currants or raisins
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar; let sit until foamy.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
- Add softened butter and eggs; knead until smooth (10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a mixer).
- Gently fold in currants or raisins.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for about an hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, divide into equal portions, shape into balls, and place on a lined baking tray.
- Cover again and let rise for another 30-40 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
