Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in sugar and salt until dissolved.
  3. Gradually add flour one cup at a time, mixing until dough pulls away from the bowl.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough, divide into two loaves, shape them, and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
